Privacy Policy

RedCurtain is a theatre diary that keeps your data in your own iCloud account. You sign in with your Apple Account, your diary syncs privately through iCloud, and there is no advertising and no tracking.

Who we are

RedCurtain is made by NeonTanuki Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17138911), at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. For anything in this policy, write to hello@redcurtain.app.

Your account

You sign in to RedCurtain with your Apple Account, using Sign in with Apple. Apple gives us an identifier that is unique to our apps, which is what keeps your diary yours across your devices. If you choose to share your name or email address when you first sign in, Apple passes those to us too, and you can ask Apple to hide your real email address. We never see your Apple Account password.

You can delete your account from Settings within the app. Doing so removes your synced diary from iCloud and ends RedCurtain's use of your Sign in with Apple identifier. You can also stop using Sign in with Apple with RedCurtain at any time from your Apple Account settings.

Your diary

Everything you log: the shows you have seen or plan to see, the theatres and auditoriums, dates and times, seats, what you paid and who sold the ticket, your ratings and notes, your Want to See list, the awards you have earned, any photographs, scanned tickets and programme pages you add, and the Memories you make from them.

It is stored on your devices and in a private database in your own iCloud account, which is how it syncs between your iPhone and iPad. It never passes through NeonTanuki's servers, and we have no way to read your private iCloud data. Apple stores and protects it as part of iCloud, under Apple's terms and privacy policy.

The show and theatre catalogue

To recognise shows and theatres, RedCurtain uses a catalogue of reference data that NeonTanuki publishes through Apple's iCloud. The catalogue describes shows and theatres, not people. Looking something up in it does not send anything from your diary.

Tickets, programmes, passes, links and screenshots

When you photograph a ticket, a booking confirmation, a programme or a theatre marquee, point the camera at a marquee, or share a Wallet pass, a booking link or a screenshot into RedCurtain, the app reads the show, theatre and date from it on your device using Apple Intelligence. What it finds is shown to you for review and nothing is saved until you confirm it. If you keep the photo with the ticket, it becomes part of your diary as described above; it is never sent to us.

Siri

When you add a show through Siri, the conversation is interpreted on your device by the on-device foundation model in Apple Intelligence. Siri itself is operated by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.

Calendar

RedCurtain asks for access to your calendar only when you choose to import bookings from it. It scans for events that look like theatre bookings and shows them to you for approval; events you do not approve are discarded and nothing else from your calendar is kept. You can revoke calendar access at any time in the Settings app.

Notifications and widgets

Reminders before and after a show, and the countdown and directions in widgets, are generated on your device from your own diary. Directions are opened in Apple Maps under Apple's privacy policy.

Usage data

RedCurtain collects a small amount of anonymous usage data, such as which features are used, to help us improve the app. It never includes anything you have logged, is not linked to your account, and is never used for advertising or sold. There are no advertising identifiers, no third-party advertising or tracking, and no behavioural profiling.

If you opt in to sharing analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may also pass us aggregate crash and performance diagnostics; those contain nothing you have logged.

Your rights

You can exercise most of your rights directly in the app: edit or delete any entry, export every ticket to CSV at any time, or delete your account to remove your synced diary. For the formal position under UK and EU data protection law, see the GDPR page.

Children

RedCurtain is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has signed in, contact us and we will help remove the account.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be flagged in the app.
